Katy Perry and John Mayer Are Holding Hands Again

When Vogue asked about Katy Perry's relationship with John Mayer — in the same interview where the singer masterfully destroyed ex-husband Russell Brand — she said the following:

"Over."

"I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him."

"All I can say about that relationship is that he’s got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds."

Now Katy and John are "lovey dovey" and "cozied up" again. Here's a picture of them holding hands at a Friars' Club party for Don Rickles last night. (Mayer sang Rickles a song.) Someone call Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson is back in the play.

In a Chinese invitation we received earlier today, Foxconn Technology Group and Mozilla confirmed an upcoming press conference that will detail and make their Firefox OS partnership official. The event will take place in Taipei next Monday (just a few days before Computex truly kicks off), and it'll see Mozilla welcome the 19th partner to its Firefox OS alliance. There isn't much meat in the email, though we did spot a little hint in the rundown that says one or more new Firefox OS products will be displayed. Whatever they may be, we shall keep an eye out for them as soon as we land in Terry Gou's back garden next week.

Hands On With Facebook Chat Heads for iPhone and iPad

Facebook just updated its iOS app to version 6.0, adding support for chat heads and a new news feed.

Chat heads debuted with Facebook Home last week and are available to all Android users as part of the Facebook Messenger app. The idea behind chat heads are to allow users to keep a running list of conversations going without having to stop what they are doing and switch apps.

While on Android, chat heads can exist as a layer within every app, on iOS, the experience is limited to being inside Facebook for iPhone or iPad. That takes away some of the joy of chat heads — namely the ability to have a persistent conversation no matter what you're doing on your device. Still, chat heads are great for users that spend a lot of time in the Facebook app and may want to carry on several chats without having to be tied to the messaging view itself.

On iOS, chat heads really shine on the iPad. The extra screen real estate makes the multi-tasking concept really sing. As with the Android app, users can move chat heads around the app to get out of the way and can also dismiss notifications and chats by just flicking the icons to the bottom of the screen.

In addition to chat heads, the iPhone version of Facebook was also updated to include the new News Feed. Users can choose specific content to view — including photos, music and games — rather than merely viewing all stories at once.

Chat heads aren't available to all Facebook for iOS users — the company says it will be rolling out the feature to everyone in the coming weeks. What do you think of the new Facebook for iOS? Let us know in the comments.

Wristband Keeps Track of How Well Doctors Wash Their Hands

Nearly 2 million cases of hospital-acquired infections are reported each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Doctors, nurses and technicians can spread germs during routine contact or invasive procedures. While the most adequate form of prevention is hand washing, it can be difficult to monitor.

One wristband may solve the problem by keeping tabs on your doctor's hygiene habits. A new bracelet developed by startup IntelligentM vibrates when the wearer has scrubbed enough and lets employers monitor their use.

The bracelet uses radio frequency identification to read tags on sanitizing and washing stations. An accelerometer detects how long someone spends cleaning their hands then sends an alert. One vibration signals adequate washing, while three buzzes indicate more time should be spent at the sink. Check out the video, above, for more.

The wristband could be a big improvement over the common alternative ways of ensuring good hygiene: secret observers implemented by hospitals to watch employees on the job, or patients asking all of their healthcare professionals to wash their hands every time they visit.

IntelligentM's wristband is less obtrusive and follows the wearer's motions to check whether they're adhering to proper hand hygiene standards. At the end of each shift, hospital administrators and staff can view collected data through a microUSB to monitor employee progress.

IntelligentM is targeting healthcare facilities with the device but is looking to expand to food service, another sector where hand washing can prevent the spread of diseases, according to MIT Technology Review.
