Street Style: All the Color at New York’s Gay Pride Parade

Coming just days after the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and reinstated Gay Marriage in California, Sunday’s cloudy Gay Pride Parade in New York was one of the largest in recent years. Headed by grand marshal and DOMA plaintiff Edie Windsor, it was a literal celebration of the week that was, full of families, couples, young kids, partying singles, and everyone in-between dressed in traditionally over-the-top rainbow garb. From anti-frackers to ascendant trend-setters, the Cut caught up with some of the parade’s viewers along the route and marchers themselves to ask them about the pride, DOMA, and their hopes for the future.

Street Style: The Most Dazzling and Mystical at the Mermaid Parade

This Saturday, Coney Island transformed into a sparkly, sequin-filled dream hub for mermaids, mermen, and every wild variation of sea creatures, sea gods, and sea goddesses to celebrate the Mermaid Parade's 30th anniversary. The Cut's Bek Andersen hunted through masses of fake hair, pounds of makeup, mermaid tails, and netting to snap some of the best looks from the event. An orange fish, a lady in a lobster fascinator, Captain Jack Sparrow, and humans colorful merpeople were all dressed in seashells, fishnets, mossy plants, and sequins that stole the show. And from the sheer amount of hair chalk and pastel-colored wigs present in the crowd, this Mermaid Parade could have doubled as a My Little Pony convention. (There was a unicorn head spotting, after all). Kate Middleton Gussied Up in Pink for the Queen’s Birthday Parade

Last Thursday may have been Kate's final "solo" pregnant appearance, but she still attended the queen's birthday festivities on Saturday. While Kimye was bringing their baby daughter into the world, Kate watched Queen Elizabeth's birthday parade in a pink coatdress, pearl earrings, and a matching hat bedecked with bows. It was no "dalmatian" print, but still a good showing.

The balcony at Buckingham Palace was much more colorful than usual, as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were there to lend some extra pizzazz. 

Are Beatrice and Eugenie's matching powder blue outfits meant to balance out the suggestive light pink of Kate's dress? Perhaps — Kate has worn both colors a lot throughout her pregnancy, so if she's sending subtle hints about her baby's gender, there's no consistency. But admit it — you want to be surprised.

Brit Marling Continued Her B&W Parade

Ever since Brit Marling started making red-carpet rounds for her new film, The East, she has seemed partial to minimal, black-and-white outfits (à la Carey Mulligan at all of her Gatsby events). Yesterday at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, the actress continued that trend, pulling on a dual-colored look from Balenciaga's fall 2013 collection. She wore a cream blouse with black pants and a short-sleeved, ankle-grazing coat on top, which was fastened with a delicate silver bow. She added black peep-toe pumps and bold red lips to finish her look — and also like Gatsby Carey, seemed to have forgotten how to smile.
