If you believe past rumors, Apple has sometimes had difficulty getting the media industry to agree with its vision of the future. Its solution may be to hire from the industry itself -- Bloomberg claims that Apple has recruited Hulu's Senior VP of Marketing and Distribution, Pete Distad, to negotiate future media deals. Neither company is commenting on the rumor, although the executive may not be immediately necessary: Bloomberg also believes that Apple is near an agreement that would bring Time Warner Cable subscribers and services to Apple TV boxes within "a few months." Whether or not that deal happens, we suspect that Distad could at least help realize Tim Cook's grand vision for TV.

We're used to Apple's CEO teasing product strategies at D Conferences, but not staffing changes. And yet, here we are: Tim Cook has revealed at D11 that former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson is joining Apple to coordinate the firm's drive toward eco-friendliness. While there are few specifics at this stage, including Jackson's title, we know that she'll report directly to Cook. There's certainly no shortage of tasks for her to handle: along with Apple's shift toward renewable energy sources, she also has to worry about the environmental impact of the products themselves.

Amazon Hires Former Windows Phone Exec to Work on 'Something Secret'

Amazon has hired Charlie Kindel, the former general manager for Microsoft's Windows Phone to work on "something secret."

Kindel, whose name prompted suspicions that he may have been trying to pull off an April Fool's hoax, wrote on his LinkedIn profile that he's working on "something wonderful" at Amazon. Under his title, Kindel wrote "Director, Something Secret."

Prior to joining Amazon, Kindel was the general manager of Windows Phone Developer Experience from January 2009 to August 2011 where he worked on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Just prior to joining Amazon, Kindel was CEO of BizLogr, a startup he founded that created MileLogr, an app that help you log your mileage for tax purposes.

Amazon's latest hire will doubtlessly fuel speculation that the company is working on an Amazon-branded smartphone. That product has been rumored for some time.
