40 Looks We Want From the Spring 2014 Menswear Shows

Street style during the menswear shows tends to bring out the best in the dapper male attendees, but it's the women who stand out. While some (like Anna Dello Russo and Caroline Issa) tend to keep their looks feminine, many get into the boy-meets-girl spirit with suits, ties, and brogues. Esther Quek, group fashion director for The Rake, takes that styling cue literally, often showing up for menswear shows in perfectly tailored three-piece suits complete with vest, tie, and pocket square. And while menswear is notorious for the ridiculous, many of this season's pieces were on-trend, handsome, and highly covetable — for women. Head-to-toe florals were big at Alexander McQueen, Comme Des Garçons, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Mixed prints were also everywhere (in dot, leopard, tie-dye, and stripe forms) helping the models at Dries Van Noten, Dolce & Gabbana, and Lanvin look perfectly mismatched. Meanwhile Valentino and Raf Simons both showed beautiful, color-blocked jackets with sleek silhouettes that would look fantastic thrown over a black dress and finished with a pair of heels.

Other times it's an entire outfit that inspires lust, like the relaxed navy leather trousers at Hermès worn with a crinkled silk tee or Acne's fitted checkered sweater and slouchy trouser combo. Other times it's individual pieces, like Saint Laurent's form-fitting, sparkly leopard tuxedo jacket, which would look perfect on Kate Moss, or Dolce & Gabbana's oversized shimmery tweed top, just asking to be worn with jeans and stilettos. For all of the talk about "borrowing from the boys" style, spring 2014 menswear transcends gender lines by incorporating cuts, patterns, and colors into the pieces that suggest these pieces shouldn't be borrowed, rather stolen. See the  looks we covet most in the slideshow below.

See All of Georgia May Jagger&#8217s Off-the-Runway Looks

It's no surprise that the daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall was destined to be in front of the camera. Georgia May Jagger has appeared in editorials from Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, landed campaigns with Rimmel, Hudson Jeans, and H&M, and, at just 19, replaced Gisele Bündchen as the face of Versace. Just five foot seven, with a gap-tooth grin reminiscent of Lauren Hutton, she's now one of the top working girls. So take a look at some of her best off-the-runway style moments in our slideshow below.

Sony nominates three new execs to its board, looks for fresh perspective

While Sony has been improving its bank balance as of late, most of that turnaround has come through job cuts and office sales -- the company needs new strategies to thrive in the long run. Accordingly, the firm has nominated three new board directors with experience outside of its core electronics divisions. Tim Schaaff (at right) is a relative insider with his board position at media-focused Sony Network Entertainment, but the same can't be said for his two peers. Eikoh Harada (left) has been turning around McDonald's Japan as its CEO, while Joichi Ito (center) is well-known for his roles as the director of MIT's Media Lab and the founder of Digital Garage. Both Harada and Schaaff also worked at Apple several years ago, giving them experience at one of Sony's main rivals. Provided the three become board members at a shareholder meeting on June 20th, they could bring new thinking to a company frequently accused of clinging to business as usual.

The Best, Worst, and Craziest Looks From Cannes

As star-studded blowouts go, there’s awards season, there’s the Met Ball, and then there’s Cannes — which is what you’d get if the first two got married and took a dizzy, dramatic honeymoon. Forget that there are actual films being screened: Focus on the red carpet. It’s two parts movie stars and supermodels, one part “actors” and “models,” a splash of crazy, and a heaping teaspoon of nudity (ideally served over ice on the deck of a rented yacht, or thrown directly into someone’s face). We compiled this roundup of 2013’s most impressive feats of glamour and gratuity, ostensibly as a cautionary tale for future attendees ... but really as an instruction manual, because without the capital-C Crazy, where would we be? Certainly not Cannes.

Night at the Theater: 8 Dramatic Spring Looks

From Valentino's embellished coat and shorts, to Céline's strange (but oddly wearable) fur heels, and Alexander Wang's futuristic use of guipure-laced fish line, the spring runways were full of electric, unpredictable evening looks that invoked a flair for seasonally uncharacteristic drama. The Cut gathered eight of our favorite evening getups and photographed them in an abandoned movie theater (because it somehow made sense). Click through our slideshow ahead to see how we styled looks by Haider Ackerman, Miu Miu, Dior, Lanvin, and more, and get inspired to up your game next date night.

All the Looks from Parsons' Annual Fashion Show

On Wednesday at Chelsea Piers, 46 of Parsons' top graduating fashion design students convened to present their final collections at the annual Parsons Fashion Show — the same runway where designers like Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Cushnie et Ochs were first spotted. In addition to showing off their hard-earned collections, many of the young designers were also in the running for the "Designer of the Year" titles. At a benefit following the runway show, Harim Jung and Kaye Applewaite were named womenswear designers of the year; Yunxiang Sharon Zhou was named menswear designer of the year; and Diana Woodside was named childrenswear designer of the year. Parsons alumnus Patrick Robinson hosted the event. Click through the slideshow for a sneak peek at the next wave of creative talent entering the real world. Included: zany prints for children; translucent high collars for women; and a bounty of sheer tops, structured jackets, and tailored suits for men.

3 Easy Cannes Beauty Looks to Try This Weekend

While the glitterati might be wearing their black-tie best in Cannes — from Balenciaga jumpsuits to sweeping Dior dresses — we musn't forget that this is basically a beach town with hot winds and humid weather. In fact, many of the hair and makeup looks from the red carpet went the fresh-faced, frizz-fighting route (even though their dresses were often floor-length and fully beaded).

While our weekends might not be filled with paparazzi, private yachts, and custom Givenchy Spanx, we can still take a cue from the easy looks of these well-heeled ladies for our own humid barbecue bonanzas. Marion Cotillard wore an easy top knot and pink-stained lips at The Immigrant photo call, Milla Jovovich opted for a headband braid and a muted, nude lip. Janet Jackson, who is looking the best we've seen her since her "Rhythm Nation" video, went with glowy skin and in-control curls (perfect for when hudmity levels reach near triple digit numbers).

Oh hey, Marion.

Popsicle Lips:
It's possible Cotillard snuck in a cherry Popsicle snack pre-red-carpet, but more realistically, she just swiped Dior's subtly shiny Rouge Serum in Carmine Crystal over her mouth. And to acheive her slicked-back top knot, add in a dollop of Philip Kingsley's Minimizer cream to hydrate and smooth hair after after a pool or beach session.

Smooth Curls:
We can't give you Ms. Jackson's jumbo-size diamond necklace, but we can help get you closer to having her frizz-tamed head of curls and incredible skin. For luminous and glowy cheeks, apply Tom Ford's Illuminating Cheek Color, which seamlessly blends into all skintones. In damp hair, work through a couple of pumps of L'Oreal's Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum. Then either let your hair down or keep it loosely gathered at the nape of the neck.

Fancy Braid:
One way to keep hair under control when humidity levels soar above 50 percent — or when playing a ruckus round of lawn bowling — is to whip them up into a crown braid. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect; that's the charm of this style. If your hair is on the thiner side, or needs a bit of texture-y grip, add in a few sprays of Wella's Ocean Spritz.

Facebook Home Hits 'About 1 Million' Downloads, Looks to the Future

Facebook_home1Emily-7d5b1d3e6b By Emily Price2013-05-09 19:19:28 UTC

Four weeks ago, Facebook launched Facebook Home, a launcher for Android that brings the social network's experience front and center.

The company on Thursday invited a small group of reporters to its campus to discuss Facebook Home, its successes and challenges, and what we can expect to see added to the platform in the future.

“We’re at just about 1 million downloads on Home,” Facebook's Director of Mobile Engineering Cory Ondrejka told the group, a number which he says is about where Facebook wanted to be at this time. He didn't, however, share how many of those 1 million downloads were currently active users of the app. The company says the number will be important to them in the future. Right now it is focusing on the engagement level of those current active users, however many there happen to be.

“This is the first product for us that has focused on mobile best,” Ondrejka said.

Mobile best is different than Facebook’s focus on "mobile first." Home is the first product the company has created with an intention to make mobile better than the experience you might get elsewhere.

“We’re doing a relatively slow roll out intentionally,” says Ondrejka, so Facebook can learn from early adopters, and make changes as necessary.

From that slow roll out –- and reviews in Google Play — Facebook has learned a bit about what people love about the launcher, and what’s missing.

“We’ve spent a lot of time digging through the one star ratings,” says Ondrejka.

Ondrejka says there are two major features that weren’t in Home at launch that people really think the launcher needs. The first is folders, and the second is docks. Facebook has fixes to both issues in the works, with plans to release those features in future updates.

During the event, we were given a quick look at what that feature will look like when it is released.

Another growth point for Facebook with Home is its "chat heads" feature. Users believe the feature is great for continuing a conversation, but not as useful when it comes to starting one. To help alleviate that issue, Facebook is planning to add a new buddy list from Facebook home where users can pull out a list of their friends to initiate a conversation.

Facebook Home is currently only officially available on the HTC One X or One X+, Samsung’s Galaxy S III, or the Galaxy Note II. The app also comes pre-loaded on the HTC First from AT&T. Facebook says the app has also been sideloaded onto over 10,000 unsupported devices by industrious Android users.

Facebook Home is currently sitting at a 2.2 star rating in Google Play.

Facebook Home will be updated monthly starting today with primarily a bug-fixing update and is scheduled to receive another update July 11. The features shown off today will be released in the coming months.

What features do you hope to see in Facebook Home in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
