If you managed to snag one of those "Launch Edition" PS4s, consider yourself officially on the ball. If not, then not only will we not judge you, but you might actually have a different set of bragging rights. Amazon's currently listing four new bundles for the console. The Knack and Watch Dogs editions come with their respective games included for $460, while the Battlefield 4 and Killzone launch bundles toss in one year of PlayStation Plus -- nudging the price up to just 10 cents shy of $500. Perhaps of more importance, however, is that unlike the Standard listing, all the bundles carry that guarantee of release day availability, which -- for gaming cred at least -- is arguably priceless.

While the US press release for the PlayStation 4 mentioned details about games, used games and pricing, it did not confirm all of the specs for the console. In Japan however, a more detailed press release clears up a few things. Sony's console is packing a 500GB hard drive (same as the Xbox One), and it will not include the camera module, which is a $59 (£44 and €49) add-on for the $399 box. By comparison, the Xbox One includes -- and requires for its use -- the Kinect 2.0 camera. (Update: Sony's confirmed that the PS4's hard drive is upgradable.)

A Best Buy listing confirms the PlayStation 4 Eye's add-on status and pricing, and that an extra DualShock 4 controller will also go for $59. We've double checked with Sony and confirmed that the system comes with a controller and mono earpiece plus HDMI, USB and power cords -- but no camera.

The spec sheet also confirms the system's dimensions at 275 x 53 x 305mm (excluding the largest projection), its ports (HDMI and optical out, 2 USB 3.0 in and 1 AUX in for use with the camera) and that a single ear mono headset is packed in with the system. That controller weighs in at 210g, includes a 1000mAh battery and one other detail some may have missed -- a built-in mono speaker. There are details specs for the camera too, which is capable of a maximum 1280 x 800 (x2) pixel capture at 60fps, 640 x 400 at 120fps, or 320 x 192 at 240fps. PlayStation Plus offers do come around every now and then, but Sony has just announced a more permanent addition to the service: the option of a $10 (or 7 euro) monthly membership to supplement the regular 90-day and annual subscriptions. The lack of commitment comes at quite a price, given that the longer contracts bring the the effective monthly cost down to $6 and $4 respectively, but it may still make sense for flighty types. Anyway, once you're in, you'll find a secondary, time-limited offer: an annual Music Unlimited Premium subscription for $42 (42 euros), which is okay, but nowhere near the discount offered in 2012. Those who remain outside of Sony's inner circle can also temporarily get 12 months of Music Unlimited for $60, or half of the usual cost. Lastly, a few more E3 crumbs: the PlayStation Network is now officially called "PSN", which is pretty much what we called it anyway, and PlayStation Plus also gets a new logo (shown after the break, not that it's especially shocking.), reflecting reflect its heightened status in the PS4 era

Just moments after baiting Microsoft with the PlayStation 4's less restrictive DRM policies, Sony announced that existing PlayStation Plus memberships will apply to all Sony gaming devices for no additional fee. "Members will have access to all the benefits across PlayStation 3, Vita and PlayStation 4 for one price," Tretton explained, sweetening the deal by outing a few of the free titles subscribers could expect to see in the coming year: Don't Starve, Outlast and Secret Ponchos. Naturally, Tretton summed up the PS Plus' major services as a steal at $5 a month -- just remember to buy in bulk, kids.

Sony's own PlayStation 3 just happens to be the most used Netflix-streaming device in the word, but that doesn't mean the outfit isn't offering a diverse array of streaming options. Today at its E3 press event, the company announced that the all three of its consoles -- PS3, PS4 and Vita -- will support a Sony live viewer service, Redbox Instant and Flixter, as well. Sony didn't say when support for these services would arrive, but made sure to mention that its own Music and Video Unlimited apps would be available on the PlayStation 4 at launch. Well, we know what the controller and the Eye look like, we've got all sorts of details about what's under the hood and we've even seen some games in action. What we haven't seen yet is the PlayStation 4 itself. Well, thankfully Sony didn't make us wait too long at this year's E3 before fleshing out those little sneak peaks with a full on reveal. Shocker: it's all black! Well, almost all black. There is a strip of purple dividing the mostly murdered-out tower. Like the Xbox One it's a pretty unassuming looking console. Gone are the dramatic swoops and curves of the PS3, and so are just about any obvious buttons. The two halves of the PS4 are slightly offset and angled to create a slightly agressive profile when viewed from the right angle, but mostly it seems designed not to draw attention to itself -- pretty much the exact opposite of the last generation of gaming platforms.

The one portion of the device with the Sony and PlayStation logos on it is that glossy "piano black" we're all familiar with. But, the rest of the device appears to be a matte black which makes the console look serious. And not business serious like a BlackBerry, hostile serious like a knife. As you can see, as with previous iterations, there is a stand for keeping the console upright, should you have more vertical than horizontal space. There's plenty of images in the galleries below.
