Given how simple and common it is to do it on Facebook, Twitter or Google+, you'd think being able to share images as part of a status update wouldn't be anything novel at this point. But for those inhabiting the popular (and inspiring) social networking site LinkedIn, this hasn't exactly been the case -- and that's about to change. As of today, users are able to add a little more flavor to things shared on the site, with LinkedIn letting it be known that they can now easily enclose more than just text when using the share box. And while picture uploads are certainly all the buzz, LinkedIn's also making it possible to include other file types, such as documents and presentations. Currently, the new feature only allows uploads to be done via the desktop version of the website, however LinkedIn did tell CNET that the content "will be viewable inside the mobile apps."

A stock GS4 may look virtually indistinguishable from its predecessor, but it looks like Samsung's got a new variant of its flagship phone that'll bring it some much-needed visual flair. The folks at GSM Arena unearthed photos of a GT-I9295 model (allegedly called the GS4 Active) sporting a bright red shell with black inserts at the top and bottom and a trio of physical buttons on its chin. If the results returned by the AnTuTu benchmark are to be believed, the phone's equipped with standard GS4 fixins: a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.9Ghz and an Adreno 320 GPU (aka, a Snapdragon 600 SoC) and a 1920 x 1080 display. Naturally, there's no word on pricing, carrier support or an arrival date, but there are a couple more photos of the handset at the source.

Days App Will Change How You Share Photos With Friends

"Was it really that great of a time?" you ask, and you've got a stream of photos to help you answer, the ones you want to delete from memory and the ones you'll frame on the wall, or at least post to Facebook.
An iOS app released Friday called Days, built by TechStars company Wander, aims to replace your phone's camera roll, with a twist: Instead of deciding which photos to share, you'll decide which to remove (but photos are also saved to your phone, so you don't lose them completely). The photos you share will be grouped into a 24-hour set, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m. on your local time zone, what founder and CEO Jeremy Fisher calls "the folk definition of what a day is."
The hope, Fisher says, is to capture a narrative by plotting these pictures in a group, to make a place for those photos that would not make sense on their own. You can't cheat: You can only add photos you've taken inside the app, and they will be timestamped.
Before public release, the app was used in a beta of fewer than 100 users.

The reason Days will be appealing to new parents, vacationers and people with mundane lives alike is that the day is a great normalizer. No matter how many photos are taken (on someone's too-awesome trip to Spain), each person you follow can share just once per day, which addresses oversharing and activity stream hijacking unlike any other social app.
Your friends (and mom) don't need to have Days to see your photos — you can share a day via text message, email, or post to Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr. Privacy controls are standard — your account is either public or private, but you can still share to social networks from a private account if you'd like to share selectively.
One of the best features of Days was created by accident. When you look at a Day, you might see that some photos behave as GIFs, a theme present in recent apps including Vine and Cinemagram.
But the decision to loop photos was to cut down on the volume — that thing where you take a bunch of photos in a row trying to catch the whole family without anyone blinking, or the dog in the air capturing the frisbee. The feature was meant to save you from having to delete duplicates, but turned out to capture movement through still photos (although if you'd like you can "split" the animation).

Of course, Days' visual diary might bring to mind the potential of the camera on Google Glass. Fisher confirms the company will be building for Glass.
The decision to design for a 24-hour day was far from arbitrary. Fisher notes that phone numbers are seven digits because seven is a magic number for human memory. A text message was 160 characters because researchers found, amidst bandwidth limitations, it was sufficient space to communicate most thoughts (and the length of a tweet was inherited from text messages). The day is already a unit we use to organize memories.
The company, which has raised a $1.2 million investment, had an focus on location earlier in its beta. Founders are Fisher and Keenan Cummings, creative director, and the team includes two engineers and a operations and community manager.

How to Remove Tagged Photos From Your Instagram Profile
By Emily Price2013-05-04 03:32:29 UTCInstagram added the ability to tag photos this week. Similar to photo tagging on Facebook, your friends can now tag you in their Instagram photos so that the image shows up on your profile as well.
It’s a fantastic feature if you want to share those photos with the world, but what if your friend adds a picture of you that you’d rather people not see? Luckily, there's a quick and easy way to remove a tag, as well as a way to make sure no photos make it to your profile without your permission.
Much like how it’s handled on Facebook, when you’re tagged in a photo on Instagram the app sends you a notification. Tagged images are added to a “Photos of You” tab on your profile page.
Tap on the tag in an offending photo to bring up a dialogue box of options. From there you can choose to hide the photo from your profile, remove the tag, or report the photo in general as inappropriate.
If you’d rather not be tagged in any photos you can set things up that way as well. Simply select the Settings menu from the Photos of You section, and then change the selection from “Add Automatically” to “Add Manually.” Now, you’ll have to approve any photos that get added to your profile page.

Meet DabKick, an iOS app that attempts to recreate the experience of sharing media with friends in person using your smartphone.
Frustrated that he couldn’t find a good way to share media with friends and family, DabKick founder Balaji Krishnan created the app as a way to foster a more natural method of remotely sharing media.
The iOS app lets you share photos, video and music with friends — either through the app or on the web using HTML 5 — in real time, so what you see on your phone’s screen is what your friend sees as well.
The entire process is meant to happen live, somewhat like a phone call, where you send someone a DabKick request and go through images and content together. If your friend isn’t available, however, the app also offers the opportunity for you to leave a message for them, explaining the images as you flip through.
If your friend has the app, then he or she can comment and like photos as you go via text or voice, creating an interactive experience for everyone.
This week the app launched a new Music layer that lets you spice up the experience with some tunes. Now you can listen to free music –- pulled from YouTube –- with your friend while you’re sharing photos and video, listen to music by yourself while perusing pics, or access your friend’s songs and listen to music together.
Social features also let you share your “Dab Name” with someone and communicate within the app without passing out any personal information.
During a demo, Krishnan told me he could also see the feature being used for something like selling items on Craigslist, where you want to talk to someone — and perhaps show them photos of an item — but you don’t want to pass out your phone number or other personal info in the process.

This Week's Greatest Moments in 30 Photos

For the former, a large anti-government protest took place in Madrid, Spain. There was also an anti-same-sex marriage demonstration in France, as well as an anti-gun protest in Washington D.C., following the White House's failed attempt to push new gun-control laws through the Senate.
It was also a big week for Australia and New Zealand, which celebrated the Australia New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) Day; it commemorates the time when the two countries' First World War forces landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The day pays tribute to the Australians and New Zealanders who fought and died in all wars.

The 10 Most Engaging Facebook Cover Photos

For those looking for some inspiration, ZoomSphere recently took stock of the most engaging cover photos on Facebook, which is defined as the photos that drew the most overall interactions. ZoomSphere culled the list from its top 1,000 Facebook pages as measured by overall fan followings. The list of cover photos shows that just having a lot of fans doesn't necessarily mean your photo will get high engagement. In fact, of the top 10 most-followed, only one — Shakira — had one of the most-engaged cover photos. (Take that, Rihanna!)
Other curious factoids: Vin Diesel showed up twice and Mitt Romney edged out President Obama.
