If you thought November 2013 was too long to wait, bear a thought for Asian gamers who will apparently have to wait those six months, plus an additional twelve, to pick up their Xbox One. According to Alan Bowman, Microsoft's Regional VP for Sales and Marketing in Asia, the new console will launch in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and India around late 2014. (Note the lack of Japan on that list, we're still checking with Microsoft on that.) These are all regions that have been marked as gaming high-growth areas by Microsoft -- the VP added that the Xbox 360 became the top-selling console in Asia this year. The company's also pointed to its next-generation Kinect sensor, one that will work in "dramatically reduced" room spaces and, according Bowman, will be better attuned to Asian gamers who might not have living room space in their homes.

Update: We've just heard back from a Microsoft spokesperson who told us the following:

"Microsoft does plan to launch Xbox One, the ultimate new-generation all-in-one entertainment system, in Japan -- we look forward to confirming timing and other details at a later stage."

Automatic delays connected car platform until August as it seeks to perfect iPhone app

It's an age-old problem: do we clamor for a company to ship a product that's not ready, or do we swallow delays with grace as it aims to deliver when things are good and ready? Such a choice has to be made when it comes to Automatic, the California-based startup which had originally hoped to start shipping its automotive dongle + app platform at the end of this month. Those (including yours truly) who pre-ordered on day one received an email last night delivering the news that things were running a bit behind schedule. The hardware itself is actually already being manufactured, but stellar components are only a piece of the total puzzle. The software -- an iPhone app, in this instance -- still needs more time in the proverbial oven, and now we're being told that packages won't ship until "the end of August."

A three-month hiccup is nothing to scoff at, and Automatic seemingly knows it. In order to sate those who were hoping to use the $70 product during their upcoming summer road trips, the company is giving early pre-orderers the option to beta test the app as it stands today. For those who agree, they'll receive their hardware in mid-June, but they'll be forced to use it with a version of the app that "lacks a few features like Crash Alert and support for multiple cars and users." We'll be keeping a close eye as the situation develops, and will definitely endeavor to pass along a review just as soon as we're able. Two months ago, we announced our vision to improve peoples' relationship to their cars. Since then, we've been blown away by the excitement surrounding Automatic and by the volume of pre-orders.

Our small team has been working hard to build a seamless connected car experience that works on thousands of makes and models, and we've made tremendous progress. The good news is that the Link – that little device that plugs into your car – is ready and being manufactured! Unfortunately, we underestimated the time needed to complete the iPhone app and we're sorry to say that it won't be ready until the end of August.

When we realized we were going to have to push back the date, we started working on a way to get the core of Automatic's features to you sooner. So here's our plan: Because you pre-ordered early, we're making Automatic available to you as a private beta. If you sign up, you'll elect to receive your Link for use with a beta version of the app, which is stable but lacks a few features like Crash Alert and support for multiple cars and users. We'll gradually roll out Links to beta users starting in mid-June.

If you'd prefer to get your Link with the feature-complete version of the app in August, you don't need to do anything. Either way, you won't be charged until your Link ships.

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Coalo has conceded that the company is pushing back its 4G rollout to September. The decision was taken in order to ensure the infrastructure is "really ready," promising that Voda's service will be "better performing" than EE's Bacon-flavored LTE. Despite the late start, Coalo has laid down an aggressive timeline, demanding that 40 percent of the UK is covered in 4G before March 2014 -- which'll please those notoriously impatient technofreaks no end.

Leap Motion Delays Pre-Order Ship Date

You'll have to put aside those dreams of a Minority Report-style interface for just a bit longer. Leap Motion, the pint-sized technology that can turn an average desktop or laptop into a gesture-controlled computer, is not shipping to customers on May 13 as previously promised.

Now, those who ordered Leap Motion device early can expect them on July 22. In a letter to press on Thursday, Leap Motion co-founder and CEO Michael Buckwald, said, "After a lot of consideration, we’ve decided to push back the date and will now be shipping units to pre-order customers on July 22nd. This is not a decision we take lightly.

“This is the first and only delay there will be. It's the right decision and will yield a beautiful product," Buckwald told Mashable.

Buckwald said that the now 80-person Leap Motion has already built and delivered thousands of devices to developers and probably could have made the original ship date. "But it wouldn’t have left time for comprehensive testing," wrote Buckwald. Leap Motion plans on completing testing in June.

“As a company we always said we would not release the product until it met our expectations and in this case our expectations are extremely high,” Buckwald said in an press conference following the announcement.

The company will also open up testing to some people outside the development community.

"This will come in the form of a beta test that will start in June. We will give the 12k developers who currently have Leap devices access to the feature complete product including OS interaction (today developers only have access to the SDK). We will also invite some people who are not developers to join the beta test."

Hardware will not be affected by the results of the beta testing. Leap Motion’s Buckwald said they have "600,000 units today in three different distribution center that we could ship today. It’s all on the software."

The delay comes just two months after leap Motion announced its pre-order delivery schedule and less than a month after it made a splash at SXSW 2013 in Austin, Texas. That was where Mashable got to test drive the rather remarkable computer interface technology.

Leap Motion and HP also recently announced their plan to embed the technology inside upcoming HP products.
