Oscar de la Renta Spitballs About Anna Wintour

On Monday, the CFDA's Founders Award will be presented to beloved American designer Oscar de la Renta by none other than Hillary Clinton herself. But de la Renta isn't all that impressed; he tells WWD's Bridget Foley that he'd rather be on the docket for Womenswear Designer of the Year, the evening's most coveted prize. De la Renta's candor is one of his greatest qualities. In an industry dominated by super-branded designers, hyper-vigilant publicists, and squeaky-clean puff pieces in Vogue, he's always willing to voice his dissatisfaction, even when it's unpopular. This may be because he's powerful and respected enough that he doesn't have to fear repercussions, but still, it's refreshing.

In the same interview, he even veers onto the subject of Anna Wintour. It's unclear exactly what he's trying to say about her — perhaps he's just spinning his wheels — but interesting nonetheless:

Is he saying Wintour's clothing choices are hypocritical? It's hard to tell. Or maybe he's making the point that one's wardrobe is one's own business, not the public's. Which would be a nice idea, if the Internet hadn't already dashed its chances.

See that squeezable bunny up there? It was created in a material 3D printing mail-away company Shapeways calls Elasto Plastic. The substance is the latest medium offered up from the organization, currently available exclusively to makers to help test out its effectiveness. The resulting 3D printed objects can be squeezed, squished, twisted and can hold liquids. It does have some shortcomings, however, as it dislikes high temperatures, fire and isn't so great for printing small objects. To see the material in action -- and to hear a grown man utter the phrase "flexible squishy goodness," check out the video after the break.

One in Ten Americans Is a Shopaholic, Says Survey

A new survey shows that over one in ten Americans — 11 percent, to be exact — consider themselves to be shopaholics. This is no surprise, particularly considering the survey was done by CouponCabin.com, a website that lures people into buying things they probably don't need by offering temporary discounts:

A new CouponCabin.com survey reveals that 15 percent of U.S. adults report their shopping habits have put them in debt, with 20 percent of saying the most amount of shopping debt they've been in exceeds $5,000 [sic]. Two-in-five (41 percent) said at their peak, they've been in more than $1,000 of shopping debt. This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin.com from May 14th – 16th, 2013, among 2,052 U.S. adults ages 18 and older.

What's more, online shopping is much more addictive than hauling one's ass to a store and going through the rigmarole of actually paying for something in person.

Sure, this survey's sample group probably skewed towards more Internet-savvy shoppers, but it's true that the web often makes it way too easy to shop. In fact, I just bought a new pair of white jeans while writing this. A quick roundup from Cut staffers reveals similarly shameful behavior. A list of our most recent online impulse purchases:

Sally: I last bought a Phillip Lim dress, because Diana told me to. I defense shop often, like if there's only one size left — I'll just panic and buy.

Diana: I bought Asos flats from Rebecca's wedding slideshow. So it's her fault, really.

Maureen: I drunkenly placed a Seamless web order and then fell asleep and missed it. The delivery man left it by my door and I found it in the morning.

Emily: From Amazon — A pastry brush, a pitcher, and a fire extinguisher.

Kurt: I bought six Michael Bastian x Uniqlo polos. Because ... why buy one? I was also unsure which one I wanted, but the other problem is that I never return things.

Stella: A nut milk bag, on Amazon the other night.

The truth is, most of the shopping decisions we make are impulsive, and many of us constantly crave that jolt of satisfaction that comes with placing an order. In fact, maybe the real reason why Buzz Bissinger's recent GQ confessional was so harrowing is that we could all see a little bit of ourselves in his story. Or ... maybe we're even jealous.

DNP Samsung SMC101 graces the FCC, could be Galaxy S 4 Zoom

Well, look what we have here. Just a little over two weeks after we spied the Samsung SM-C101 at the Bluetooth SIG, the handset turns up at the FCC looking for approval. As we mentioned previously, it's what could very well be the rumored Galaxy S 4 Zoom, an S 4 handset with a large camera -- essentially a sequel to the Galaxy Camera, but with phone capabilities. Indeed, the FCC report states the SM-C101 has quad-band GSM, AT&T-compatible HSPA+, NFC, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE. However, there is no mention of LTE, which leads us to doubt this device is destined for the US (though this doesn't guarantee we won't see a US-bound variant down the road). The listing is otherwise light on details, though we do hope that the speculations of a 16-megapixel camera turn out to be true. At least it seems we won't have long to find out.

Palm Pre 2 steampunk mod

Most people would buy a Bluetooth controller if they decide to keep an old phone for gaming, but one particular user from Chinese site Zoopda was struck with a better idea. Kissing his plan to buy a Bluetooth add-on goodbye, he instead spent a weekend adding steampunk-inspired accoutrements to his Palm Pre 2. Check out a video of the tricked out phone in action after the break. It's not in English, but it might give you an idea of what to do with your old handheld devices in case you're looking for something to go with your goggles and Victorian-era laptop.

Linux Mint 15 hits the web, begs for 'Olivia' Munn endorsement

As with previous releases, the newest Mint iteration, "Olivia," comes in two distinct flavors: Cinnamon and MATE. While both have received a bit of polish, it's the fresher Cinnamon that has gotten the most attention. Version 1.8 of the desktop environment has received plenty of bug fixes, along with a new dedicated settings panel that bypasses the GNOME control center. Support for "Desklets" (read: widgets) has also been added and the log-in screen is completely customizable through HTML5. Both versions benefit from the addition of MintSources, for managing software repositories, and MintDrivers, for managing drivers, obviously. While they'll come in handy for consumers, the biggest advantage is that IT managers may now be more accepting of the refreshingly green Ubuntu derivative. The developers are calling version 15 their most ambitious release yet, and while we're not completely convinced that's true, it's certainly a significant upgrade over November's Nadia. You'll find the full changelog and download links at the source.
