Vine for Android gets front camera support, upload manager

Twitter is certainly making up for lost time on Android -- just a few days after it upgraded Vine to address some early omissions, it's back with another round of improvements for the Google-inclined. The just-posted Vine 1.2 update for Android brings front camera access for those inevitable selfie videos. It also brings an upload manager for backlogged clips, settings tweaks and a fresh wave of performance boosts. The new version may not lure back Android users who've switched allegiance to Instagram, but those who still prefer Twitter's approach can grab Vine 1.2 at Google Play.

Well, that's fun. We've wrapped up Engadget and gdgt's first-ever combined New York City event, and boy howdy did we have a heck of a night. A whole bunch of readers braved the heatwave to queue up hours in advance, forming a line that snaked around the block. When the doors opened, they were greeted with gear-packed event space, including lounges from Sony and Samsung and booths from companies like Toshiba, Qualcomm, Nokia and Sling, plus some smaller outfits like our first-ever Insert Coin winner, Ziphius.

The event also featured panels throughout the night, including conversations with Samsung Mobile VP Nick DiCarlo and Sony Electronics senior manager, Ray Hartjen, plus a roundtable discussion on the state of the industry featuring Jordan Crook from TechCrunch, Kevin Tofel from GigaOm and Harry McCracken from Time. IK Multimedia closed things out with performances by prog band Sound of Contact and Living Color leader Vernon Reid. All in all, not a bad night, if we do say so ourselves. We can't wait to do it again!Engadget + gdgt NYC wrap-up See all photos 32 Photos

Street Style: Just Going for It at the Men’s Shows in Milan

As evidenced by the garden-inspired prints, primary colors, and even one Dancing Bear sweater, the stylish set at Milan Men's Fashion Week wanted to have a bit more fun than in their besuited days at Pitto Uomo earlier this week.

On the last day of the shows, men and women embraced the Pantone color wheel under the Milanese sun with punchy blazers, vibrant linen pantsuits, and in Anna Dello Russo's somewhat-restrained case, a tangerine Dior dress. The Cut sent the photographer Youngjun Koo to home in on the younger fashion set that had been let loose in Europe, pairing silk suits with turbans, colorful dresses with Day-Glo sneakers, flora platforms (and the return of flatforms?), and even a cheeky Jil Sander brown-paper-bag-as-clutch. Click ahead to enjoy it all.

Automatic translation comes to Twitter's official Windows Phone app

It's not every day we see Windows Phone being used to launch a major new feature, but Twitter has done just that. An update to its official app has just enabled automatic translation if you happen to be reading a person's tweet that isn't in English. The tweet isn't translated in your actual timeline; instead you have to manually click through, but that's nothing to complain about. Microsoft's Bing Platform, also released yesterday, is likely being used as the backend, so this feature could very well come to Twitter's official apps on Android and iOS (not to mention a whole range of other apps) in the near future.Bing Translator in Twitter for Windows Phone See all photos 5 Photos

HTC One launches in 'glamor red', arrives in the UK next month (update: pricing)

THE HTC ONE® LAUNCHES IN GLAMOUR RED

LONDON, June 27, 2013 - HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today announces that the award-winning HTC One will be available in a distinctive, new colour. Available exclusively to customers of Phones 4u from mid-July, the new HTC One in Glamour Red packs the blistering performance and premium features that have garnered global acclaim since its launch earlier this year, into a body that makes a striking yet sophisticated statement.

Philip Blair, President of EMEA, HTC, commented, "We have always been committed to offering consumers the flexibility to share their personalities through their choice of mobile phone, whether through colour, customisation or features. The new HTC One in Glamour Red showcases the power of our flagship model in a colour that demands attention, whilst maintaining the high standards set for sophisticated design and build quality."

Sitting at the top of HTC's portfolio, the HTC One combines the latest in mobile innovation and design to offer the company's most powerful experience to date. BlinkFeed aggregates multiple feeds from selected news sources, social networks and other in-phone features like the calendar or HTC Sense TV to create a customisable, real-time stream of relevant information direct to the home screen. HTC revolutionised photography with the introduction of the UltraPixel camera, for superior images in low light, and HTC Zoe, allowing you to capture the moment, not just a split-second snapshot. BoomSound brings your music to life with front-facing speakers and Beats Audio™ optimisation, placing you at the heart of the action, whether listening to music, playing a game or watching a movie on the stunning, 4.7", Full HD screen.

Since its launch, the HTC One has attracted a host of editorial and industry awards which recognise its superior performance and benchmark design. Highlights include the GSMA's Global Mobile Award for Best New Mobile Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2013 and Computex Taipei's Gold Medal in Design and Innovation.
