Quantic Dream's The Dark Sorcerer demo highlights PS4's graphics power

Remember the Emotion Engine from back in the PS2 days? Well, Sony's still on about the emotional connection its consoles will bring to gamers -- specifically, that of the PS4. And to showcase the console's graphical sophistication, Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida played a 12-minute tech demo of Quantic Dream's upcoming PS4 title, The Dark Sorcerer. The majority of the demo focused closely on the sorcerer in question, giving gamers an early glimpse of the nuance and hyper realistic expression capable in characters' eyes and faces. Only a short snippet was shown on stage here at E3, but if you want to digest the entire thing, Sony's planning to unveil the full 12-minute demo tomorrow afternoon.

PS4 to require PS Plus membership for multiplayer play

Sony is delivering mixed blessings here at E3: while it's more than willing to avoid DRM on the PlayStation 4, it just echoed Microsoft's approach to multiplayer services. You'll now need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online. That may be a small price to pay when both Plus and the PS4 itself are cheaper than Xbox Live and the Xbox One, but it's an unfortunate extra cost for those used to getting their multiplayer gaming for free.

Lululemon CEO Exits, Sheer Pants Link Unclear

Lululemon's CEO of five-and-a-half years, Christine Day, will step down as soon as a successor is found, the company announced today. WWD reports:

Day said, "Plans have been laid for the next five years and a vision set for the next ten." She added that now is the right time to bring in a ceo who will drive the next phase of the firm's growth.

No explanation for her departure was given, but one head already rolled after that sheer-pants scandal earlier this year, so it's probably not related.

Hillary Clinton’s Twitter Debut: A Cut Chat

Today, at 12:44 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Hillary Clinton finally joined Twitter. The news that "hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker" Hillary had joined Twitter drove the Cut's internal chat room into a frenzy. How does her first tweet rate? What's up with that bio? What does Huma Abedin think? Come, join us in wild speculation.

Benina Sax, social media manager: Just a heads up — Hilary Clinton is now verified and officially on Twitter.

Charlotte Cowles, writer: AHHH, I love it.

Maureen O'Connor, writer: I wonder if Huma was consulted on this decision.

Kat Stoeffel, writer: She's so good at it already, perfect first tweet:

Charlotte: The Texts From Hillary guy she tweeted at is freaking out.

Kurt Soller, features editor: AMAZING. But let's talk about Hillary's Twitter bio: "Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD ... "

Maureen: "Cracker" kind of distracting me.

Stella Bugbee, editorial director: "TBD" is my favorite, but "Wife, Mom" is such an interesting and calculated little piece of text. Of all those things, WIFE made it first?

Maureen: Seems like chronological order, maybe? Surprising because people used to be suspicious about the origin of her career, how she "politicized" the office of First Lady. Also, everyone knows résumés are supposed to be reverse-chron.

Charlotte: I bet it's a "softening" thing.

Kurt: She also turned her pantsuits and hair into a joke, but I thought we weren't supposed to talk about those things. Can we now?

Kat: By embracing her memes, she's saying yes. What a 21st-century form of self-actualization.

Benina: Speaking of WIFE, Bill Clinton has weighed in:

Kat: Hahaha, Bill's bio. "Founder, the Clinton Foundation." It should be "father, philanderer, vegan."

Maureen: When did Twitter bios become epitaphs, anyway? The listing of relationship identities — wife, mom — is straight out of an obituary. "Here lies Maureen O'Connor, daughter, sister, ironic use of the #TweetYourWeight hashtag."

Kat: "Katherine Stoeffel, followed her mom."

Maureen: There is something almost too easy about famous people culling favor by sweetly buying into the memes other people create about them.

Charlotte: When it's handed to you on a silver platter, it'd be silly not to.

Maureen: I know. Just that I'll be more impressed when someone like Romney, whose memes all made fun of him, finds a way to turn that momentum around and harness it, jujitsu-style. We already know what Hillary is going to do on Twitter. Same stuff Obama does. I would be more excited if Huma Abedin joined Twitter. Or if Huma Abedin commented on Hillary joining Twitter. Everyone just scream "TWITTER" every time Huma Abedin walks by, is what I'm saying.

Charlotte: Yeah, but if Huma is BEHIND Hillary's Twitter? And what if Hillary tweets dog pictures??

Maureen: Dog pictures have potential.

Charlotte: See, that's where I think the "wife, mother" thing comes in. She's going to use Twitter to endear people to her with cute pictures and other Internet fodder.

Maureen: I love Hillary, but I'm not following her until Bill tweets a crotch shot. That is when it gets interesting.

PlayStation 4 console hardware finally revealed

Well, we know what the controller and the Eye look like, we've got all sorts of details about what's under the hood and we've even seen some games in action. What we haven't seen yet is the PlayStation 4 itself. Well, thankfully Sony didn't make us wait too long at this year's E3 before fleshing out those little sneak peaks with a full on reveal. Shocker: it's all black! Well, almost all black. There is a strip of purple dividing the mostly murdered-out tower. Like the Xbox One it's a pretty unassuming looking console. Gone are the dramatic swoops and curves of the PS3, and so are just about any obvious buttons. The two halves of the PS4 are slightly offset and angled to create a slightly agressive profile when viewed from the right angle, but mostly it seems designed not to draw attention to itself -- pretty much the exact opposite of the last generation of gaming platforms.

The one portion of the device with the Sony and PlayStation logos on it is that glossy "piano black" we're all familiar with. But, the rest of the device appears to be a matte black which makes the console look serious. And not business serious like a BlackBerry, hostile serious like a knife. As you can see, as with previous iterations, there is a stand for keeping the console upright, should you have more vertical than horizontal space. There's plenty of images in the galleries below. But, don't worry, we'll be back with plenty more once we get to see it in the flesh.
