Yesterday in Beverly Hills, the actress attended Vanity Fair and CH Carolina Herrera's celebration of a new boutique opening on Rodeo Drive. She opted for a casual, chic look for the event, wearing a short-sleeved navy shift dress covered in white speckles and pointy nude ankle-strap kitten heels. She carried a simple black clutch and let her wavy ombré locks down. But her main accessory of the evening were her adorably giant specs; don't forget, Jones went to Harvard.

CompuLab MintBox 2 unveiled with four times the power, same Linux Mint flavor
Now that Linux Mint 15 is available, it's only fair that we get a new MintBox to match. The CompuLab and Linux Mint teams won't disappoint us on that front: they've just previewed the MintBox 2, a big upgrade to their open source mini PC. The new version drops AMD processors in favor of an Intel Core i5 that's reportedly four times faster than the AMD T56 in the MintBox Pro. The refresh also doubles the storage to 500GB while adding a second gigabit Ethernet jack for server duties. CompuLab and Linux Mint haven't said how soon they expect the MintBox 2 to ship, but they're expecting a $599 price at Amazon.

Christian Lacroix Is Back! What to Expect From His Couture Collection
The couture shows are next week! And kicking them off will be Christian Lacroix, king of all things tulle and puffy and bow-covered, who returns to the schedule for the first time after his label's sad implosion in 2009. He's in charge of reviving the long-dormant House of Schiaparelli, which is currently owned by Tod's president Diego Della Valle, who bought the trademark seven years ago. The 18-piece collection, presented on mannequins in Les Arts Decoratifs, is a one-off for Lacroix; he'll then step aside to make way for a permanent creative director, rumored to be Rochas's Marco Zanini.
Since closing his bankrupt business (the photo above is from his last couture show), Lacroix has busied himself with a myriad of design projects, including luxury hotel decorations and knickknacks for the Louvre's gift shops. This collection will reflect his flair for theatrics and historical appropriation. He tells WWD, "It’s as if it was a musical about Schiaparelli, and I’m in charge of the costumes," adding that he shares many tastes with the late designer, whose name recognition got a boost from last year's Schiaparelli-and-Prada-themed Met Gala:
Fun! Although it is a little sad that he's not using live models. Let's not forget this is the man who used to put Carla Bruni in outfits like this:
Anyway, expect the unexpected! WWD adds that the collection won't be sold, which means it's purely for spectacle's sake — the best kind of couture presentation, in other words.

Which Waterproof Mascara Can Survive the Heat?
Summertime calls for relaxing dips in the ocean, tearful weddings, and unfortunately, sweaty morning commutes. Choosing a mascara for the hottest months of the year means opting for a waterproof formula. Finding the perfect one, however, can be difficult. Not only does it have to lengthen, separate, and add volume to your lashes, it also has to hold up throughout a full day's activities and be easy to remove at the end of the night.
As an Asian woman, I prefer waterproof mascaras because our lashes tend to be very straight, and angle downward. As time goes on, any curl will slowly weaken and the hair will droop, resulting in telltale smudges under the eye. In the past 12 days, I tried 11 different types. I looked carefully at the quality of the brushes and how well each formula was able to deliver on its promises, especially those that touted the look of fake lashes. For the brands that had indistinguishable effects on my eyes, packaging was the tie-breaker, because design matters.
Following one child's birthday party, a long night at the office, several outdoor runs, and a wedding during one of the most hot and humid days of the year, some fared better than others. Which deserved a repeat, and which left me mourning the loss of a few lashes? Click ahead to find out.
