The amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes is always a sight to behold. All the people who have been holed up in their yachts taking in the sun can finally throw on their sparkliest gowns and join the actresses who have been working hard all week to avoid wardrobe malfunctions.
While there was much to celebrate with the Carine Roitfeld–curated "Ultimate Gold Collection" fashion show and Janet Jackson's Armani M.C. Hammer pants, the biggest accomplishment of the night was that, on its twentieth anniversary, the gala managed to raise an estimated $26 million for AIDS research. Thank Leo DiCaprio for bringing in 1.5 of those millions from the auction of a seat next to him in Richard Branson's spaceship. Hurrah!
